K-2-ETS1-3 Analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each performs.

Detailed Description

This unit was created to guide teachers through the 1st Grade Next Generation Earth Science Standards. Our unit is built to give teachers a scope and sequence filled with investigations, activities, technology and literacy connections to dive into the Earth Science standards in an effective and meaningful way. Our lessons include over 15 hours of earth science instruction to follow exclusively or provide choices in activities for you to conduct in your classroom. Through these lessons students will: --Investigate the moon, sun, and stars as objects in the day and night sky --Determine the characteristics of day & night & day and night activities --Understand why day and night occur. --Describe how the sun changes position in the sky throughout the day. --Develop an understanding of sunrise and sunset. --Learn about the moon & moon phases --Experience Engineering through an Engineering Design Challenge --Investigate how the amount of sunlight changes throughout the seasons. --Learn vocabulary through 1st Grade Earth Science content LESSONS & RESOURCES INCLUDED: OBJECTS IN THE SKY - Focus Questions, Objectives & Vocabulary - Step-by-Step Investigation instructions - Objects in the sky note-taker - Objects in the sky questions & worksheet DAY AND NIGHT - Focus Questions, Objectives & Vocabulary - Step-by-Step lesson & activity instructions - Day & Night PowerPoint with Teacher Script - Day & Night Illustrations workbook - Day & Night Literacy Analysis - Day and Night Demonstration instructions - Day and Night Internet Simulation link - Why we have Day and Night Worksheet - Day and Night Illustration Worksheet SUN CHANGES - Focus Questions, Objectives & Vocabulary - Step by Step lesson & activity instructions - Sun changes investigations worksheet - Shadow Tracking Investigation - Shadow Tracking Worksheet - Technology connections MOON IN MOTION - Focus Questions, Objectives & Vocabulary - Monthly Moon Journal Instructions - Moon Journal Binder Cover & Parent letter - Moon Read Aloud suggestions & Guided questions - Moon analysis photos & Activity instructions - Looking at the Moon Recording sheet - Moon PowerPoint - Moon Crater Activity instructions - Moon Crater Data sheet - Moon Crater bar graph - Moon Crater Art Activity - Sun, Moon, Earth orbit Demonstration Instructions - Sun, Moon, Earth cut-outs - Moonlight Reflection Demonstration Instructions - Earth, Moon, Sun Spinner Sheet & Instructions - Changing Moon Worksheet - Moon Phase Technology component - Moon phase cards - Oreo Cookie Moon Phases Activity instructions TOWERS TO THE MOON ENGINEERING CHALLENGE - Towers to the Moon PowerPoint Introducing Engineers, Engineering Design Process, & Towers to the Moon Engineering Design Challenge - Student Engineering Instruction, planning, & Questions sheet - Tallest Tower Photo Analysis PATTERNS OF DAYLIGHT - Focus Questions, Objectives & Vocabulary - Summer & Winter Sunlight Technology link - Summer & Winter Data Sheet
